What does our Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 migration process cover?

Google Workspace Email to Microsoft Exchange Online

What will be migrated:

  • Inbox
  • Folders/Labels
  • Email
  • Muted Email (as regular email)
  • Contacts
  • Calendars (including links for Google Hangouts within calendar meetings)
  • Calendar Notifications
  • Google Categories (i.e., the Google category flags: Social, Promotions, Updates, Forums)
  • Snoozed and Scheduled emails - these are migrated like regular emails to custom destination labels. Their properties are not migrated

Links for Google Hangouts are a new default feature added to Google Meetings. Microsoft 365 does not have the corresponding property to map. Therefore, when migrating to Microsoft 365, the links for Google Hangouts are added to the beginning of the meeting description body text on Microsoft 365.

What will not be migrated:

  • Calendar Reminders
  • Google Spaces
  • Google Spaces Chats
  • Appointments
  • Chat message attachments
  • Google Groups for Business (including forums and collaborative inboxes) **
  • Calendar attachments
  • Calendar reminders
  • Tasks
  • Chats and chat history
  • Email attachments that are links to Google Drive
  • Some calendar colours
  • Rules
  • Calendar permissions
  • Automatic replies

All colour category meta tags are transferred over, but Microsoft 365 does not have direct colour mappings from Google G Suite, so certain colours do not get mapped over, thus the colours are not displayed in Microsoft 365 for the calendar entries.

* Google Groups data will not be migrated to Microsoft 365, but the same functionality can be set up once the migration is complete. We will confirm if Google Groups are in use, or other functionality that in fact will be able to be moved across.

Google Drive to OneDrive

What will be migrated:

  • Folders
  • Folders you have shared
  • Permissions
  • G Suite native files
  • Code Files
  • Documents
  • Images
  • Executables
  • Videos
  • Audio Files
  • Templates (files that the template had been applied to are migrated)
  • Creation Date (Creation date gets changed to the "date of migration" date)
  • Scripts/Macros (Scripts are not converted to macros when going to documents)
  • Comments
  • File/Folder permissions
  • Items/folders in "Shared with Me”. These folders must be added to the user’s “My Drive”.
  • Shortcuts (Migrated in Google Drive to Google Drive scenarios only.)
  • Google Shared Drives (also known as Team Drives)
  • Only when SharePoint Online is the Destination

What will not be migrated:

  • Items and folders in "Shared with Me" will not be migrated. Only items in "My Drive" will be migrated. To migrate "Shared with Me" items, they must be added to "My Drive".
  • We are not able to support migrations with two-factor or multifactor authentication.
  • The maximum file size for migration through our process varies by migration type and environment but may never exceed 60GB
  • Personal / Free Google Drive is not supported
  • File/folder shortcuts
  • Google Photos

Other Considerations

OneDrive data may not be accessible for a few days after migration, due to OneDrive's crawling and indexing process. We suggest you have your users log in immediately after migration but let them know that their data may not be available immediately. For this reason, it may be best to complete the migration on a Friday so the indexing can happen over the weekend.
